SİLİKON VADİSİ NEDİR VE NEREDEDİR? - WHAT IS THE SILICON VALLEY AND WHERE IS IT?
Bölgenin adı, silikon tabanlı MOSFET ve yonga
tasarımında ve üretiminde uzmanlaşmış çok sayıda firmanın burada kurulmasından
gelir. Bölge günümüzde dünyanın en büyük teknoloji şirketinin çoğuna, Fortune
1000 listesindeki 30'dan fazla şirketin genel merkezine ve binlerce startup
şirketine ev sahipliği yapmaktadır. ABD'deki risk sermayesi yatırımlarının üçte
bir Silikon Vadisi şirketlerine yapılmaktadır. Bu nedenle bölge, girişimcilik
ekosisteminin ve bilimsel gelişimin merkezi haline gelmiştir. Silikon tabanlı
entegre devre, mikroişlemci, mikrobilgisayar ve daha birçok teknoloji Silikon
Vadisi'nde icat edilmiştir. 2013 itibarıyla bölgede yaklaşık 250.000 teknoloji
işçisi çalışmaktadır.
SİLİKON VADİSİ GEÇMİŞİ
Silikon Vadisi’nde ilk ödül William Shockley, John Bardeen ve Walter Brattain’in ilk yarı iletken transistorü icat ederek aldıkları Nobel ödülü oldu. 1963′ta Doug Engelbert, Fair Stanford Araştırma Enstitüsü’nde ilk bilgisayar faresini (Mouse) geliştirdi ve internet’te online sisteminin temelleri atıldı. 1971′de Intel ilk mikroişlemci Intel 4004’ü geliştirdi. 1972 de Ethernet internet temelli bu teknoloji LAN’larda (Local Area Network) veri alışverişini mümkün kıldı. 1976′da Steve Jobs ve Steve Wozniak Cupertino’da ilk şirketlerini açtılar ve Apple marka bilgisayarlarını satmaya başladılar. 1994 yılında Jerry Yang, Stanford Üniversitesi’nde bir karavanın arkasında popüler arama motoru Yahoo’yu kurdu. Stanford mezunları Sergie Prin ve Larry Page 1998 yılında Mountain View’da Google şirketini kurdular. Mark Zuckerberg Harvard Üniversitesi’nde okurken 2004 yılında Facebook’u kurdu ve Palo Alto’ya taşıdı.
SILICON VALLEY
Silicon Valley, South of the San Francisco Bay Area in
Northern California; It is the informal name of the region that is seen as the
global center of high technology, innovation, venture capital and social media
companies. Geographically, it roughly occupies the Santa Clara Valley. The
largest city in Silicon Valley, San Jose is the third largest city in
California and the tenth largest city in the United States. Other major cities
in Silicon Valley include Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Redwood City, Mountain View,
Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Cupertino.
The name of the region comes from the establishment of
many companies specializing in the design and manufacture of silicon-based
MOSFETs and chips. Today, the region is home to many of the world's largest
technology companies, the headquarters of more than 30 Fortune 1000 companies,
and thousands of startups. A third of venture capital investments in the US are
made in Silicon Valley companies. For this reason, the region has become the
center of the entrepreneurial ecosystem and scientific development.
Silicon-based integrated circuit, microprocessor, microcomputer and many more
technologies were invented in Silicon Valley. As of 2013, approximately 250,000
technology workers work in the region.
SILICON VALLEY HISTORY
The first prize in Silicon Valley was the Nobel Prize
awarded to William Shockley, John Bardeen, and Walter Brattain for inventing
the first semiconductor transistor. In 1963, Doug Engelbert developed the first
computer mouse at the Fair Stanford Research Institute, and the foundations of
the online system were laid on the Internet. In 1971 Intel developed the first
microprocessor, the Intel 4004. In 1972, this Ethernet internet-based technology
made it possible to exchange data in LANs (Local Area Network). In 1976, Steve
Jobs and Steve Wozniak opened their first company in Cupertino and began
selling Apple computers. In 1994, Jerry Yang founded the popular search engine
Yahoo in the back of a trailer at Stanford University. Stanford alumni Sergie
Prin and Larry Page founded Google in 1998 in Mountain View. Mark Zuckerberg
founded Facebook in 2004 while studying at Harvard University and moved it to
Palo Alto.
